Family Law is an area of the law that touches almost everyone at some point in their lives. It is also a profoundly important part of life at work, whether one is personally experiencing a divorce or family law issue or a co-worker or client needs to understand what is a sometimes confusing life change. Sometimes a family law matter  can be as as simple has how to change a legal name. Other, larger issues like child custody can be more complex. Having a basic understanding of family law can make a huge difference both personally and professionally by making what feels difficult become straightforward, clear and understandable.

Since family law issues are often intertwined with health issues because of stress, nursing, social work, teaching and human resources are all professions in which an understanding of family law can make a big difference for clients and families. Helping a client or student or patient by being able to talk with them about what is going on at home in a way that brings down their emotional fear and frustration can be extremely beneficial.  It can save lost work time, reduce stress and improve health outcomes, and help keep students in class. Family law is often part of the job for many students but they are not trained in this area beforehand.  Civil Survival offers Your Right in Divorce and Child Custody as a simple way to prepare students in a vital workplace skill.
